Opensuse 11.0 and VMware Server Problems solved

Everybody who tried to get VMware Server 1.0.8 running on Opensuse and struggled to have vmware-config compile a suitable module will be happy to hear that I found a solution that works. I downgraded to VMware 1.0.6!. Even though the error messages stay the same (wrong GCC version, kernel is compiled with a different compiler than that which is available…), I just answered all questions with a "Yes" – no environment variables necessary – and had a running VMware Server on Opensuse 11.0 that survived also a reboot, which does not work with 1.0.8 here.

I tried the Virtualisation with a Linux and a Windows 7 guest, both worked, including networking.
